The Blue Bird Cottage built from 1902-1907

It’s a love story really, like so many wonderful stories begin.... we knew the moment we drove up the tree lined driveway that “this was the place.” The place where our family would become the stewards of an idyllic property. A place where generations of families would come to create memories that last a lifetime. A place for intimate wedding ceremonies, engaging community events, and most importantly a place that feels like “home” when you arrive.

Founded in 1778 by Nathanial Hayford, The Preserve at Chocorua began out of humble beginnings as a working farm. In the 1890’s the Hayford family opened their doors to passers by, families, farmers, and theater goers as a place for respite. We carry on this tradition today by offering guests a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life by giving them the opportunity to connect with one another and enjoy the uniqueness of Tamworth, NH.

Chocorua & Tamworth

Mount Chocorua and the Chocorua basin have attracted artists, writers and poets for centuries. Some of the most notable being E.E. Cummings, Wallace Stephens, Grover Cleveland, and many more. Chocorua is and always will be a refuge for city dwellers intellectuals, artists, and conservationists.

Since 2015 we’ve been thoughtfully restoring, renovating, and finding new functionality within this richly historic property. Our family will continue to embrace its storied history with a true nod to its past, while keeping an eye to the future by focusing on sustainability for its prosperity.

FAMILY

At the core of The Preserve you will find a very large family whose affinity for traditions runs deep. It is our goal to share in that process of creating valuable lasting memories and traditions for your family.

On any give day you might see us tending to gardens, flipping burgers for a community event, changing beds, emptying trash…there is never a shortage of “things to do” when tending to the property. We hope that our hands-on approach to daily life at The Preserve will make you feel a part of this wonderful legacy.
